Agriculture

We believe that it’s important that fertilisers used in agriculture are safe when it comes to contents of heavy metals, pathogens and medical residue.

Phosphate rock (the raw material for phosphorus fertilisers) can contain many impurities, such as high levels of cadmium and uranium. Today, these impurities are not completely separated during the production process and end up in the phosphorus fertiliser products.

A heavy metal, such as cadmium, that can be found in phosphorus fertilisers from for example phosphate mines in Morocco and Western Sahara (the world’s largest deposits of phosphate rock) have proven to be toxic for human health and is one of six substances banned by the European Union’s Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive. Recent data from epidemiological studies suggest that intake of cadmium through the diet are associated with a higher risk of developing endometrial, breast and prostate cancer as well as to osteoporosis in humans.

Our starting points when we created the Ash2Phos process was that our fertiliser products need to be:

  1. A product that the agriculture sector wants and uses today
  2. Pure and safe to use
  3. Delivering high plant availability
  4. Able to be used for precision fertilising

Based on those requirements, we have developed a unique process that truly enables the circular economy.
